Last Week's Releases — Week of 2026-08-24
5 picks from Steam (3 puzzle, 2 adjacent). A quiet week where every pick still has only 2-3 reviews, or none
This week
Last week (Aug 24-30) was a quiet one for Steam puzzle releases. No breakout hits showed up, and most of the five picks below are fresh enough that they still have only 2-3 reviews, or none at all.
Even so, the mechanics on display are solid: a Sokoban-style game where commands arrive late (bansoko: Class Crossing), a platformer where your own past attempts become the level geometry (AfterImage), and a few more small games built around one idea, carried through carefully.
Since reputations haven't settled yet, this week's roundup leans more toward "freshly discovered" than "already buzzing." Review counts are noted plainly in each entry.
This week's picks
bansoko: Class Crossing
A Sokoban-style pushing puzzle with a twist: commands given to party members execute one beat late, so the same corridor plays out differently depending on that delay. Over 200 hand-built puzzles across 10 worlds, plus a class-change costume system. Reviews are scarce (just 2 so far), but both are positive.

AfterImage
A puzzle platformer where every attempt becomes a physical object once you press ECHO — your next run can stand on, bridge across, or weigh down that recording. One core mechanic is reused across 11 different applications over 80 fully hand-built floors (no procedural generation). No reviews have landed yet, but the idea of milking one mechanic this thoroughly is worth a look.

Dicetris
A falling-block puzzler where you stack dice in columns and need the pips to sum to a target while also matching colors to clear them. Special dice (metal, infinity, frozen) and rule-bending maps (floods, move limits) add variety across a 50-level journey mode plus an endless mode. Only 3 reviews so far, all positive.

Distinct Sudoku
Rebuilds the classic 3x3-block premise of Sudoku with six variant rulesets — embedding, rotation, loop, snake, and more. Five difficulty tiers and infinitely generated boards for anyone tired of standard grids. Zero reviews yet, but the idea of reworking Sudoku's own skeleton should interest observation-puzzle fans.

Escape Hatch
An escape room game where you build and run the room instead of solving it — locking friends inside and watching over camera feeds, doling out hints or withholding them. A full room editor (padlocks, keypads, wiring, triggers) is the real product here, and rooms can be shared and remixed. Not a pure logic puzzle, but the reversal of who gets to design the challenge is a fun angle. No reviews yet.

Hiki's pick of the week
My pick this week is bansoko: Class Crossing. A single twist — commands land one beat late — turns a familiar Sokoban map into a different puzzle entirely. Small change, but it makes you recount your route in your head all over again.
On the radar
Cubing Forge (The Wolf Pack Mind) is slated for August 31 — a guided 3x3 speedcubing trainer covering CFOP algorithm practice and Bluetooth smart-cube support. It's more a training app than a puzzle game proper, but the depth of the tooling has us keeping an eye on it for a future roundup.
Closing
A quiet week has its own pleasure: catching games before the reviews pile up. This week's five picks were chosen for what they're trying to do, not for how many people have already played them. If one catches your eye, even just browsing the store screenshots is worth the minute.
