Sprouts (1967) — A Two-Player Game of Dots and Lines on Paper That Resists Solving
In 1967 John Conway and Michael Paterson at Cambridge devised Sprouts, a pencil-and-paper game for two, and Martin Gardner's July 1967 column spread it. Join dots, add a new dot on each line, and the game must end. Computers have charted who wins for each starting size, yet a conjecture remains.
