Knight's Tour (c. 840) — How Chess Without the Contest Became Poetry and Mathematics
The puzzle of visiting all 64 squares with a knight's jump goes back to ninth-century manuscripts and Indian poetry. Euler treated it in 1759, Warnsdorff gave a rule in 1823, and the count was confirmed in 1997. This traces its history from the sources I could check.
