Dragon Quest I & II (1999) - a book you can save in anywhere, which vanishes the moment you resume
Episode 64 of "Today Is Release Day": Dragon Quest I & II, which Enix released for the Game Boy on September 23, 1999. Two role-playing games from 1986 and 1987 were fitted onto one cartridge, with development by Tose. To make them portable, the port added a "Book of Suspension" that lets you save anywhere - except that the save disappears the moment you resume. Around 740,000 copies shipped in Japan. The North American version that followed in 2000 dropped the old-fashioned English of earlier entries, and the hero's name went from "Erdrick" back to "Loto".
