Last Week's Releases — Week of 2026-08-30
6 picks from Steam and itch (4 puzzle, 2 adjacent)
This week's overview
Last week (Aug 30 - Sep 5) was quiet on the breakout-hit front, but I picked six releases from Steam and itch.io, including two adjacent-genre titles that already racked up real reviews within days.
Four are pure logic puzzles, two lean adjacent. ShoreTiles and Isle of Reveries each cleared dozens of reviews within days of launch, both landing at mostly positive or better.
The other four still have zero or near-zero reviews. They're picked on concept and craft rather than track record, straight out of my notebook of candidates.
This week's picks
Recursive Access
Recursive Access is a first-person puzzle by solo developer Colin Kidwell, released Sep 2, 2026. You roll a ball through a neon cube maze one grid step at a time, collecting keys to reach the exit. Mazes are procedurally generated, so there's no fixed solution to memorize. No reviews yet, but at $1.99 it looks like a light pick-up-and-play option for spare moments.

ShoreTiles
ShoreTiles, from VOXEL Studios and publisher Noovola, launched Sep 3, 2026. It's a tile-placement game where you build an island around a fragile lighthouse by day, then brace for creatures rising from the deep at night. Placed tiles can't be undone, which seems to be where the tension comes from. It already gathered 59 reviews within days, 44 of them positive (Mostly Positive), and had press coverage from COGconnected before launch (as of April 2026).

Froggy Logic
Froggy Logic, by solo developer Qianyu Tiancheng, released Sep 4, 2026. You guide a frog through laser-filled mazes, switching between five states - Normal, Wet, Floating, Frozen, Dead - while placing mirrors and bombs to redirect beams. The store page states there's "no failure, only moments where you haven't found the solution yet," hinting at a design that avoids dead ends. Nine story chapters, but no reviews so far.

Mazlide
Mazlide, by Mazlide Studio, entered Early Access Sep 4, 2026. It's a grid-based logic puzzle the store page describes as inspired by Pokémon's ice-sliding movement. Between a 350-level campaign, 50,000+ community-made levels, and an infinite mode, it's easily the biggest in scope this week, on top of 1v1 duels and a weekly boss level. No reviews yet, given the Early Access launch.

Isle of Reveries
Isle of Reveries, from solo developer desertcucco, released Sep 4, 2026. You play an owl named Lief on a skybound pilgrimage, solving puzzles across six dungeons by duplicating and summoning objects with a fairy companion's magic. It had a demo and Kickstarter backing before launch, and 25 of its 28 reviews so far are positive (89%) - a strong start. At $17.99 it's the priciest pick this week, but the scope (eight biomes, co-op play) seems to justify it.

Numble
Numble, by PlaywithK, released Sep 5, 2026. Think Wordle, but for secret number codes instead of words - you crack them using color-coded feedback. Difficulty modes and customizable rules are included. No reviews yet, but at well under a dollar it looks like an easy, low-stakes pick for anyone who likes a quick daily puzzle.

Hiki's pick of the week
My pick this week is Isle of Reveries. It had demo and Kickstarter backing before launch, and 89% of its reviews are positive so far. A sky-high puzzle adventure worth a look.
Watching next
Looking ahead: PuzzleTwist (liaosishan1), out Sep 6, pairs a hardcore puzzle mode with a relaxed match-3 mode - it just missed this week's cutoff. Thinky Games' database also lists Hazard Pay, a block-pushing cleanup puzzler set for Sep 10. Curious how both land.
Closing
No breakout hit this week, but two adjacent-genre picks are already earning real reviews, alongside four puzzles chosen on concept alone. If one catches your eye, give it a try this weekend - I'll keep filling my notebook either way.
