Six picks from Steam (5 puzzle, 1 adjacent). A week of hand-painted art and perspective tricks

This week

Every Monday I trace back last week's Steam "New & Trending" tab over a strong morning coffee. Jul 20-26 was light on big releases but quietly rewarding: a run of small puzzle and puzzle-adventure games that compete on presentation - hand-painted art, perspective tricks.

Six picks from Steam this time, anchored on pure puzzles but mixing in co-op and mystery-leaning adventures. Note that Molleindustria's Future? No Thanks!, scheduled the same week, was reportedly delayed at the last minute while Valve reviewed mild nudity. Since I couldn't confirm it actually released, I've moved it to the closing "On my radar" rather than the main list.

I keep played and unplayed titles separate. Where I couldn't verify something I flag it ("reportedly," "the store page says"), so make the final call from the store page and trailer.

This week's picks

Dodo Duckie

Developer: BornMonkie / Publisher: Solo Game / Released: 2026-07-23 / Price: $11.99 (20% launch discount until Aug 6) / Length: 5-8 hours / Steam: Very Positive (49 reviews, 100%)

A perspective-swapping puzzle platformer that flips between 2D and 3D to reveal hidden paths. Dodo the duck borrows Capie the capybara's magic cap and dives into a glitched dimension to rescue his kidnapped chickens. The developer pitches it as "Fez meets Super Paper Mario," where changing how you see the space is the solution itself. A debut from BornMonkie, it opened at 49 reviews and 100% positive, with PS5/Switch versions said to follow this year. For players who enjoy spatial-perception puzzles; less so if you want reflex-driven action.

Helix: Descent N Ascent

Developer: Badass Mongoose / Publisher: Badass Mongoose / Released: 2026-07-23 / Price: $14.99 (10% launch discount, two weeks) / Length: 4-6 hours / Steam: Very Positive (21 reviews, 100%)

An atmospheric, combat-free puzzle-adventure in a monochrome world. You wake disembodied and meet a double who always seems to be at odds with you; abilities unlock gradually and combine to clear environmental challenges, per the store page. The art nods to 1980s black-and-white indie comics, 1990s manga and 1970s Franco-Belgian BD, with a score by Jim Guthrie (Sword & Sworcery). It opened at 21 reviews and 100% positive and launched on Switch too. Good for players who like solving by feel inside a quiet world; not for those chasing fast pacing.

Void Future: Hacking Protocol

Developer: RVL Interactive / Publisher: RockGame S.A. / Released: 2026-07-23 / Price: Launched with a 15% launch discount (base price varies by store) / Length: 6-10 hours / Steam: Very Positive (13 reviews, 92%)

A hacking puzzle set in a corporate-run cyberpunk world: breach interconnected networks and security layers, then reconstruct a global conspiracy from fragments. Its look mixes retro-futurism with modern cyberpunk, and it follows a well-received demo. Steam reviews sit at 13 and 92% positive. If you like the programming-adjacent satisfaction of assembling a procedure to force an opening (in the spirit of Gunpoint), this is your lane; if you want story-first deduction, note the weight sits on the puzzles.

Lost in Tandem

Developer: Tempete Studio / Publisher: Juicebox Studios / Released: 2026-07-22 / Price: $14.99 (10% launch discount, one week) / Length: 4-6 hours / Steam: Very Positive (12 reviews, 91%)

A relaxed-paced 2D puzzle-adventure for one or two players via couch co-op, following a girl and a defective robot, "Mech-ute," across a post-apocalyptic world. Solo play switches between characters, and Remote Play Together is supported. Every asset is hand-painted using traditional techniques, and one player summed it up as "Iron Giant meets Studio Ghibli." It opened at 12 reviews and 91% positive. Best for a pair who prefer cooperation and exploration over speed; solo players are covered via character switching.

The Dream Of A Cockspur

Developer: roccay / Publisher: PLAYISM / Released: 2026-07-22 / Price: $6.99 (10% launch discount) / Length: 3-5 hours / Steam: Very Positive (109 reviews, 95%)

A surreal, cosmic-horror-tinged point-and-click adventure about researchers stranded on a remote island after investigating a fallen celestial object. It is puzzle-led, with inventory interactions, and its clay/plaster stop-motion, surrealist-painting visuals give it a strongly authored look. Published by PLAYISM, it drew the most reviews of this week's picks at 109 and 95% positive. For players drawn to reconstructing "what happened on the island" from clues, a la Return of the Obra Dinn. If horror imagery isn't your thing, check the trailer first.

Organize my Shop

Developer: Owl's Howls / Publisher: Owl's Howls / Released: 2026-07-24 / Price: $4.99 (20% launch discount until Aug 7) / Length: 2-4 hours / Steam: Mostly Positive (25 reviews, 84%)

A cozy sorting-and-shelving point-and-click puzzle: place cheeses, deli items and pastries by label, moving between shelves and a conveyor-belt pile. The hook is a no-penalty, no-pressure structure where small "what goes where" optimizations accumulate. Steam reviews sit at 25 and 84% positive. For players who find tidying itself satisfying, or who want a short, bite-sized busywork puzzle; likely too light if you're after crunchy logic.

My pick of the week

My pick is Dodo Duckie. The idea that switching between 2D and 3D is itself the solution is genuinely appealing, and a clean 49-review, 100%-positive launch is reassuring. Just to see how a path appears when you change your view is reason enough to open it.

On my radar

Molleindustria's Future? No Thanks! - a point-and-click with an ecosocialist premise. Scheduled this week but reportedly delayed by Valve's review; it's said to ship once the review clears. Worth watching as a strongly authored release.

Satelital - an open-world puzzle where you deduce the rules themselves. An announcement trailer dropped in mid-July, targeting a Steam release later in 2026.

Closing

Quieter weeks are often where a maker's hand comes through most clearly. This weekend, pick one - flip a perspective, reconstruct an island mystery, or just tidy some shelves. Start by opening the trailer of whichever caught your eye. See you next Monday.
