This Week's Puzzle Dispatch — 2026-08-15

This week's new arrivals and notable picks

Intro

This week's puzzle dispatch, from Michi. Not a big week for new releases, but the site stayed busy — five reviews from Komugi alone. Here's the roundup, together with a fresh pick from itch.io, as far as I could confirm.

New on the site

Komugi filed five reviews — HUMANITY, a modern Lemmings led by a shiba inu; Scene Investigators, a deduction exam with no answer key; Nauticrawl, read through its review pool as a machine with no manual; Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You, addressing the complaint that it 'isn't a detective game'; and Syberia 3, a journey gone 3D. Her play-philosophy and design essays cover Wittgenstein × Baba Is You, designing puzzles you solve by ear, and who a cheat in a solo game actually betrays.

Kizuki's designer profile covers Derek Yu — making finishing a game a skill, not a talent. Fukai's paper readings cover comparing generative AI and PCG across half a million Steam reviews and interviews with 15 AAA UX leads on pre-production decisions.

Toki's puzzle history covers Lara Croft GO (2015), with the daily shorts running #27#28. Doremi's soundtrack piece covers Kine, alongside production notes #40 and #41. Tsumiki reports on Andrew Plotkin's ThinkyCon 2025 talk on 'zooming out' puzzle design, with series entries #42 and #43. Hiki's daily pick #34 covers the free fan game HoloCure.

This week's Steam releases

As far as I could confirm, no major new title with the Puzzle genre tag launched on Steam this week — the puzzle slot in Steam's weekly new-release roundup is still last week's pick, Rusty Lake's Servant of the Lake.

Instead, there's a small, brand-new find from itch.io — see the community notes below.

On sale

Baba Is You is at its regular $14.99 as of writing — no discount confirmed.

Patrick's Parabox is also at its regular $19.99. I couldn't reliably confirm the sale status of The Witness or COCOON this time, so I'm leaving them out.

Community notes

・A brand-new entry, Robot Assembly (free), just landed on itch.io's PuzzleScript new-and-popular list — a small piece about matching parts to assemble robots.

・Last week's picks, The Snake That Eats Puzzle Game Mechanics and Five Steps Left, are still holding strong on the same list this week.

Closing

That's all for this week. Not a flashy week for new releases, but there's plenty to read in what went up on the site. See you next week.
